Danielle Emon, OCLS: CLO Cataloguing Program
another session in March, topics to be confirmed
follow the page: https://clo-collaboration-spaces.atlassian.net/wiki/x/RQA-Ng
Liana Giovando, OCLS: Resource Sharing
no updates re resource sharing
updating digitization documentation to ensure it is in line with the recs of the copyright interest group
testing and updating digital resource sharing
Dana O’Hagan, Niagara: new UI
used to get prompts for the new UI in fulfillment but now it seems to be the default
it can be changed back but have advised staff to just leave it as it is
have other libraries followed the same practice? has anyone created documentation on how to use the new UI? has anyone received staff feedback about the changes?
Brenda Desjardins, St Lawrence: St Lawrence is using the new UI
Sarah Walker, Confederation: We are using the new UI and people are forgetting about the “Done” button because it has moved and is not highlighted, so students are ending up with fines and fees because items are not checked in/out properly. We’re need to remind staff not to forget about this button.
Dana: Do you have to press “Done” when you check in an item for the return to complete?
Sarah: Yes, we noticed that last year.
Brenda: It was an issue before so we have to constantly remind our ref/circ staff. Done is very very important.
Diana Borges, OCLS: new UI and RFID
Discussion Forum post from Travis Winwood, Algonquin College: 2 Issues with the new Manage Patrons Interface
There was a list of resolved issues in the March new release, including some related to RFID issues: Alma March new releases
Sarah Walker, Confederation: setting up eReserves in Alma
looking at options for eReserves; currently have our physical reserves discoverable through the courses under fulfillment but we are trying to figure out how we can have PDFs or other eBooks linked in as reserves for courses.
received several responses to their question from the eResources listserv and have connected staff
does anyone else has tips or tricks?
Brenda Desjardins: Rialto
University of Toronto is moving back to GOBI
What are other libraries doing if they can’t buy print through Rialto anymore?
Dana:
Niagara is going to stop buying print books altogether, and considering not buying books at all
If we do buy physical, we usually end up on Amazon.
Would be curious to know more about the ProQuest packages, what publishers will be coming on board
Would like to learn more about GOBI but at this time trying not to buy books
Brenda:
Need to consider moving away from print, but patrons want print books
used GOBI in the past
don’t want to support Amazon at this time
don’t know what the budget will look like for St Lawrence
really big change and missing information right now
Jennifer Horwath, Mohawk:
have to see what’s going to happen with our budget
will probably look at Amazon or GOBI
we can also use Alma acquisitions and set up vendors and letters, and use other vendors as someone mentioned on the eResources listserv
configuring Alma to work with other vendors might be something we can explore as a group moving forward
Brenda:
that would be great
Liana:
I remember during implementation that this was a project for the future, but the future might be now
Dana:
I believe George Brown buys their physical books from the publisher themselves and have contacts for all of the publishing houses to buy directly from them
Brenda:
We use our bookstore a lot too
Danielle:
Loyalist established a process before Rialto came along to purchase a certain amount through Acquisitions
can’t speak to how the process has changed over the last years, but folks can get in touch with Dayle Gorsline for more information about this
Terri Duff, Fleming:
I thought we just couldn't buy books on Rialto from Ebook Central?
Jennifer:
it’s both eBooks and print books from eBook Central
Terri Duff:
But you can buy from other publishers
Jennifer:
Yes, EBSCO, Taylor & Francis, Springer etc.
Travis:
Algonquin is moving to GOBI (Mosaic) as well.
Jennifer:
Mohawk will be waiting to see what our budget looks like.
Is Mosaic live in Canada now?
Dana:
signed up for the Mosaic session in hopes of asking this
also heard it is only available in the US
maybe now they will consider branching out
I feel like EBSCO is going to do a lot more now to help customers
Diana:
ProQuest has told us they will share the recording from the meeting last week and the Content & Licensing team will share it through the eResources listserv
