Study Group Session 84: General Question and Answer

Session Notes

Alyssa Kuehner, Fanshawe: CLO Cataloguing Program

  • subject headings suppression: go through the lists of subjects headings to be suppressed and replacements

Danielle Emon, OCLS:

  • no concerns with the instructions re suppressing the subject headings at this point, all that needs to be doneI

  • behind the scenes those subject headings continue to exist in the records, provide searchable access points but are not visible to the public

  • keeping them there has the benefit that if there is an update from the vocabulary to that subject heading, that update will be applied to the records

Rebecca Pearson, Lambton: Resource Sharing Borrowing Requests List Facets

  • Is cancelled by staff showing up as an active request type facet in your borrowing requests lists?

  • for some colleges this shows up as an active request type but not at Lambton

  • Aimee Jeffrey, Conestoga: cancelled by staff can also be something that is not available - if request was for something that was not available, Alma will cancel it automatically

  • need to adjust Borrowing Requests Inactive Filters

Terri Duff, Fleming: Resource Sharing Item Policy Restrictions

  • limiting availability of an item based on when it was created, so that new books (1 year old) are not able to go out

  • want to make the item not requestable, not just hide the request option

Rebecca Pearson, Lambton:

  • item policy that you apply to new items and then run a job to change that item policy/take it off of a book on an annual basis

  • adjust resource sharing TOU so they don’t apply to that item policy, add item policy exception

  • for now, make it a part of the workflow not to lend out new books

Erin Williams, Fanshawe: Clearing Borrowing Requests after Testing Resource Sharing Configurations

  • If item used during testing has been loaned, does the person at the other end have to ship it back before I can clear the requests after testing?

Rebecca: No, requests can just be cleared on the borrowing requests side by scanning in the barcode in the Scan In module and everything will be undone

Travis Winwood, Algonquin:

  • had to use the Scan In for item to transit to the right campus

  • put in request through the virtual library - used Scan In for it go to the appropriate library and available for the patron to pick up/get it In Transit status

  • it is essential for some operations

Rebecca: Yes, the danger is scanning in too many times

Aimee: pop message instructions have been included in the documentation

Erin Williams, Fanshawe: setting up Bibliotheca lockers this summer

  • will take notes

  • Travis: process is better now, still a long process of configuration

  • Amanda Van Mierlo, Humber: do other people who have lockers set them up as their own desk in Alma? Humber did this and it provides good statistics

    • Travis: Algonquin had to, because they have 2 different vendors, and it has been nice to see the laptop and tech loans separately.

    • Aimee: Conestoga has done this too.
