Action Item Update
Subcommittee Chair Updates (Julie, Leigh, Dijana, Gordana, Jane)
Met/Cat: They had a very productive meeting. The Metadata Management Service Proposal was reviewed and supported by the Subcommittee. They also discussed NZ decisions, as well as cataloguing workflows and how detailed they need to be. The LibGuide for CLO Metadata Standards is in progress. It will have a phased approach to release formats in batches. They also discussed Bookwhere. It has about 3000 sources, but unfortunately it is a tool outside of Alma, and they would like a tool that integrates with Alma. Met/Cat would like to identify and prioritize external sources that ARE integrated with Alma and then can assess if Bookwhere really adds value. OCLC sent statistics for colleges and Stacey will share with Met/Cat.
E-res/Acq: They are meeting Thursday.
UX: No meeting. But Julie received response from Cheryl & Lisa on suppressing LSCH proposal to use MAIN subject headings to suppress and they approved. Multiple groups working on this across the colleges and it would be great to consolidate the work/groups. She will come back to ISC with an update.
SAD: They are working on evaluating what’s readily available in Alma to fulfill CLO reports, work continues. They’re also reviewing OCLS draft guidelines for managing the sandboxes. They will discuss on Friday and have briefing note for ISC next week.
TCPR - They’re looking for volunteers within the committee to write an article for InsideOCULA about Page 1+. It will be drafted with help of PMO. Another important communication piece coming up is to engage students & faculty in September. It is important to be ready to communicate to these audiences. Resources such as the Messaging presentation - lexicon and Faculty Preparation Guide. Librarians may need help to convey this messages to students and faculty.
OCLS Update (Virginia) - incl. small group consultations
For OCLS Service Proposals next steps, with CLO meeting at end of Sept and not much opportunity to meet before then, OCLS would like to do small CLO focus groups with an ISC member to socialize this information and bring CLO members into the conversations. The focus groups would have a dual purpose 1) provide information about 3 groups of activities, etc. and 2) would like feedback/agreement on cost recovery services, such as: Are they the right activities? What value do they represent to the colleges? They are iterative activities but OCLS does not have much data available yet. It will take 8 months before more data and experience is available to make adjustments. The first year will be exploratory at some level because of unknowns from both OCLS and colleges. Some colleges concerned with additional costs related to Page 1+ as it will be an additional ask for budget. There may be a need to think about alternatives.
OCLS would like to get agreement in principle to provide information for budget cycles which are coming up soon. ISC supports meetings to ensure everyone has information and opportunity for feedback, but may be difficult to get on everyone’s calendars. They also recommend to include comparison to Sirsi consortium costs and update total Cost of Ownership data.
Trademark Briefing Note (Liana)
The briefing note addresses the risk of registering Page 1+ trademark. summary of work of BLG
ACTION ITEM: Everyone to review the Trademark Briefing Note before the next ISC meeting.
Ex Libris Named Users Meeting Updates (Liana/Virginia) - deferred
Rialto (Dijana)
Liana reached out to ProQuest to schedule demo. Because it is a 3rd party integration it will be up to colleges to manage instead of Ex Libris turning something on. They will need to figure out how to integrate with Alma.
OCLS is willing to support and provide assistance with Rialto if needed. There are no additional costs for OASIS for Rialto.
For GOBI, the OCLS contract expires in March 2023 with 1 year extension, but only aware of 5 colleges using GOBI right now. The colleges have agreed not to renew as cost is higher than volume. For GOBI there is a cost to integration with Alma (~$3000 to use API). If colleges want to stay with GOBI, then OCLS could assist and is ready to provide support. Humber is having meeting with GOBI in terms in bringing records.
