Managing Notifications & Tips for Basecamp
Basecamp is the tool Ex Libris uses to share important project information. It includes a message board, detailed activities and tasks, documents, etc.
The CLSP Project Management Office will continue to use Confluence as a local collaboration tool with project overview information, reminders, communications, committee work, etc.
Here are some options for managing notifications from Basecamp and some helpful tips.
Option 1: Add Tags to Draw Attention to your Posts
You can add your Alma institution code, for example 01OCLS_BOREAL, to the title of your Basecamp post so you will notice correspondence on that thread quickly. You can also tag users in Basecamp and encourage others to tag you.
To get a specific person's attention on something, you can tag them in the post.
First type @ and then their name directly after (no spaces) and their name will pop up, for example:
Option 2: Manage Conversations in your “Hey” Section
Mark all the conversations in your “Hey” section as read, and then manually pick and choose which to attend to.
Option 3: Unsubscribe from Message Threads
You also have the option to unsubscribe from an individual message thread. You can still see the messages in Basecamp, but you won't be notified of subsequent posts to the thread. Use for topics are not of interest, or ones with lots of activity.
To unsubscribe, scroll to the bottom of the thread and click the Unsubscribe me button.
Option 4: Sign Up for a Daily Digest
To use Basecamp differently, there is an option to subscribe to a daily summary of activity (includes message board posts) on the Activity page. After you subscribe, you may turn off notifications in your profile.
important If you turn off notifications, it is strongly recommended to visit Basecamp daily to ensure you’re aware of important updates/messages/activities.
Option 5: Change your Notification Settings
To access your personal settings, click your name icon (small circle with initials or profile picture) in the upper right corner.
Selecting Turn on Focus Mode turns notifications off for the day, unless you manually turn it off earlier.
Click Change your notification settings to manage how many notifications you receive, how you get them and when you get them.
Note For email notifications, you can create an email rule that automatically sends them to one folder in your email client (e.g. Outlook).
Tips
Use the Message Board over Basecamp Pings (private chat) to ensure your questions can be seen by more people and others can benefit from the responses.
The Ex Libris team prefers posts to the Message Board over Pings, because the whole team can see message posts so it's less likely to get missed, and they can provide back up for each other when needed.
