Subcommittee Chair Update - deferred

Network Zone and Local Fields Best Practices Table

There is discussion about what the purpose of the table is and how it should be used. Also there still seems to be missing information in terms of what fields colleges are using for local information.

The table is meant to become an appendix to established Minimum Bibliographic Standards based on discussions in previous meetings and research in Backgrounder on Minimum Bibliographic Standards.

One approach is to determine how the non-local fields are used for local information and then provide a list of local field ranges to put it in. Also, think about the indexing as well and you may need to have indexing reconfigured in Alma as well.

Dijana uses the examples of existing institutions table to demonstrate the importance of providing specific guidance for the local fields.

Examples of Consortia Local Fields Best Practices:

Dijana also references that applying these future standards to current data clean up efforts that may affect multiple institutions (e.g. SIRSI 035 match point).

The subcommittee is in favour of developing the table to provide guidance for local fields to ensure consistency.
