Welcome Tiffany!

Welcome to Tiffany our newest subcommittee member from Confederation College! We are excited to have you here Tiffany.

Update from Implementation Steering Committee

ISC discussed Resource Sharing. There has been a request to look into naming conventions in regards to Resource sharing. In addition, more research is being conducted on peer-to-peer sharing.

Training, Communications & PR: From now on CLSP will be known as Page 1+, there will be a comprehensive re-branding.

Metadata and Cataloguing - currently working on creating bibliographic standards for Page 1+, they are moving through this process by resource type. So far streaming video and audio have been completed, e-books is currently being worked on and the next step will be standards for database resources. These standards are being made to be used as a “cheat sheet” so that cataloguers can consult them when entering new records into the network zone. The document will have both required and recommended actions.

E-Resources: https://clo-collaboration-spaces.atlassian.net/l/c/edfz05rC has been updated with new content to assist with testing your E-Resources.

Review and complete draft Briefing Note - https://clo-collaboration-spaces.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CI/pages/475856937/Briefing+Note+NN+-+LC+Terms+to+be+Suppressed+in+Primo+VE?focusedCommentId=538116099#comment-538116099

This briefing note aims to, among other things, provide the workflow for suppressing offensive Library of Congress language in records rather than removing them altogether. And provide the initial list of suppressed terms and how that list will be managed and where it will live.

As of right now there is only information of how to suppress in the IZ as an assumption has been made during testing that all records will be IZ, and there will be no separate NZ bibliographic records.

To change the discovery configuration you will need a discovery administration role, if not at least an administrator at the general system level.

Each of the terms being changed must be uploaded manually and separately per data row, there is no batch upload option. While the information is not case sensitive, it must be a full and exact match (including accents) to the subject heading being suppressed. In addition, suppression needs to be entered manually at both the facet and record level. If facets are suppressed the suppressed terms will still be in records, if the terms are suppressed in records then they will still appear in facets unless the term is suppressed in both facets and terms. To suppress terms in records one needs to use dashes, to suppress terms in facets one needs to leave the facets out.

It is proposed that the first set of terms will be published both in Confluence and the LibGuide. Any further sets of terms will be posted in the LibGuide to ensure their continued access after the Go Live date.

The current approach to picking the first batch of terms is for Tiffany to pick out 5 main headings as the first terms to suppress (likely with easily accessible French equivalents) to allow colleges to become familiar with suppressing language in their Alma Marc records and facets. It will be expressed to colleges that while there are 5 terms to begin with this is only the beginning - meaning that there is a recognition that ongoing research is essential and taking place.

Some future questions:

  • How often will the list be updated/terms be reviewed?

  • Who will be responsible for keeping the information updated?

  • How will we continue to keep people informed of the changes to the suppressed terms guidelines?

  • Will, there be separate English and French suppressed terms lists?

ACTION ITEM: Tiffany.Miller (Unlicensed) to propose the initial 5 terms to be suppressed and email to the subcommittee members.

ACTION ITEM: Lisa Di Barbora to update the Briefing Note and Word Document to reflect findings of terms suppression in Alma.

ACTION ITEM: Aura Hill and Lauren Rupert to create a section for the suppressed terms in the LibGuide.

Resource Sharing - deferred

To consider for the next meeting or will be discussed via email:

  1. What level of resource sharing do we want to enable for go-live?

  2. What actions need to be taken in order to enable this level of resource sharing?

    1. Update the CLO Reciprocal Borrowing Agreement?

    2. Confirm NZ and IZ configuration settings?

    3. Assign naming convention for other college users?Any other items

Parking Lot Items

  1. ILL Survey

  2. Discovery Working Group? - a group to guide colleges through decisions related to Primo that will help facilitate user access to resources and ease library staff decision making fatigue.
